There is a global shortage of clean (drinkable) water. You do not have to let that shortage enter your home and body.

The best way to start your health journey is with a glass of water.

According to a WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program Report published in 2017, 844 million people don’t have access to clean water. This translates to 1 in 9 people who don’t have access to clean drinking water.

Because of the fundamental necessity of clean and safe drinking water, everyone should have access to this vital resource. Securing clean and safe drinking water for the world’s population will go a long way towards reducing mortality rates and illness.

Be On The Lookout!

This post contains a "Secret Sauce" section. The Secret Sauce is a section that I dedicate to personal recommendations, 'ninja tips', and links to secret resources that I use.

Urban Water Crisis

It is estimated that the world’s population will grow by 3 billion in the next 5 decades or more. This means there will be more people in need of clean and safe drinking water which will be a burden on a resource that is becoming scarce every day.

Major aquifers around the world have been over-pumped and even in some river basins, the resource is highly sought after for use as drinking water, crop irrigation, and tourism (water parks and swimming).

Let’s use my home city, Miami, as an example. As an American mega city, Miami is composed of tall skyscrapers, roads, parks, canals retention ponds and everything else that comes with urban-sprawl. What many people don’t know is that this mega city is actually built on the Biscayne Aquifer.

The aquifer measures 4,000 square miles of shallow, porous limestone, and air pockets filled with rainwater. The aquifer also cleans the water and keeps it from flooding the city. Thanks to the abundant source of fresh water, Miami has hosted millions of Americans. Sadly, climate change is affecting this structure and as a result, experts have predicted that Miami will be underwater by the end of this century.

Before that time arrives, Miami’s water supply will become polluted which means the people of Miami will not have access to safe and clean drinking water.

Cape Town is another mega city facing the urban water crisis. Early in 2018, Cape Town was preparing for “day zero.” The city was placed under “Level 6b” water restrictions which came into effect on February 1st, 2018. This restriction meant that the residents of Cape Town were required to use 50 liters of water per person every day. To counter this problem, the authorities in Cape Town proposed the tugging of icebergs from Antarctica. An almost silly idea, Cape Town’s proposal shines a light on a dire ‘water-stress’ situation that faces cities from Sao Paulo, Bangalore, Beijing, Cairo, Jakarta, Moscow, Tokyo, and other major cities.

Bottled Water vs Filtered Water - Rethink What You Drink

The best defense is often a good offense. You have the power to nourish your body and when it comes to water no other tool beats a reliable home water filter.

Concerns over water scarcity or the urban water crisis is not a reason to stock up your home with bottled water. Yes, bottled water is highly convenient because it's packed in plastic bottles. It is also portable which allows users to carry a bottle everywhere they go.

The problem is that experts have raised concerns in regards to the safety of bottled water. Several studies have been conducted around the world with researchers that about 93% of bottled water contains micro-plastics.

Apart from that, researchers have also discovered that some bottled water may contain trace amounts of mold, microbes, benzene, arsenic, and trihalomethanes. Consumption of certain bottled water brands (under poor handling conditions) means you are exposing yourself to various health problems such as cancer.

The good news is that you can continue hydrating your body as recommended by doctors (8 to 10 glasses every day) and still be healthy. So, which is the best solution? Filtered water is the best solution.

Unlike bottled water, filtered water is passed through a thorough filtration process just prior to drinking.

There are several types of water filters for residential use. They include:

  • Water filter pitcher
  • Faucet water filter
  • Activated carbon filters
  • Reverse osmosis
  • Alkaline/water ionizers
  • UV filters
  • Infrared filters

How Filtered Water Can Improve Your Performance

The human body is 60% water and that is why doctors and nutritionists insist that we should drink 8 to 10 glasses of water each day. Proper water hydration throughout the day is a key contributing factor toward reaching and maintaining mental peak performance.

When you drink filtered water, it helps improve blood circulation in your body. As a result, you can experience improved temperature control, improved motivation levels, decreased levels of fatigue and improved mental alertness. In addition, it helps to reduce the oxidative stress common during high-intensity exercises.

Researchers have discovered that the human brain is influenced by hydration. If you dehydrate 1 to 3% of your body weight, your brain functions will be impaired.

Filtered water is free of toxins and contaminants. As a result, the water molecules will hydrate your muscles and fill them with water. This means contaminants/toxins will be pushed out of your tissues. Thanks to the minerals in the filtered water, they will help to build your stamina.

So, to stay at the peak of your performance, drink 8 to 10 glasses of filtered water every day. To make this happen, use the following system. Take 8 to 10 wristbands and put them on your right hand. Every time you drink a glass of water, remove one wristband. You also need to invest in a water filter for your home. This will remove impurities in your tap water making it safe to drink.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know how filtered water helps to improve your mental and physical performance, it's easy to understand why we have chosen filtered water as the better option. Yes, bottled water is portable, convenient, easily available and probably safer than tap water but studies have shown that bottled water contains micro-plastics.

With filtered water, you don’t have to worry about micro-plastics, toxins and other contaminants.
